Carey Nall: Music

hard ride (4:01)

(Planet Earth)
December 21, 1996
words and music: Carey Nall
This song is to honor Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce, as they were the inspiration. They were chased from their land and slaughtered when they tried to reach Canada, all because they tried to live on the land which was promised to them by treaty. And nothing has changed.
Heard the drummin' comin' through the wood
Riders are approachin' and I've done all that I could
I feel cold wind blowin'
Howlin' down around my head
Now It's a long hard ride
But I'll be free until I'm dead

Now I'm running, never looking back to see
I need all my cunning, cause they're comin' after me
I feel that long cold arm
Got to warn the family
Yeh, its a long hard ride
and they just won't let me be

An empty promise spoken on a book of lies
You raped my mother right before my very eyes
Now it's a long hard ride
Though you said that I could stay
'Long as the grass shall grow
'Long as I don't get in the way

Taken away from my home
Don't you know that I'll die if I don't roam
Now it's a long hard ride
Up to grand mother's land
Long as the grass shall grow
Long as the mountains shall stand
Now it's a long hard ride
But I'll be free until I'm dead
